Curtis, Heinz, Garrett and O'Keefe, P.C. continues as general counsel to the Missouri Valley Conference after 11 years of success. We assist The Valley with all of its varied legal issues, from trademarks to real estate to television contracts. The firm was a key player when The Missouri Valley Conference hosted the Final Four in St. Louis in 2005. In 2011 The Valley hosted its one-millionth fan at its annual conference basketball tournament.

In a unanimous decision, the Missouri Supreme Court, in the case of Arbor Investment Co., LLC, et al. v. City of Hermann, SC91109, affirmed the Gasconade County trial court’s judgment that the City of Hermann’s municipal utility rates were not taxes subject to the requirement of voter approval under the Hancock amendment, but rather were user fees that could be changed from time to time in the discretion of local elected officials. The case involved a group of individuals and businesses that received various utility services from the City. The Supreme Court upheld the trial court’s grant of summary judgment. The City of Hermann was represented by Kenneth Heinz, Carl J. Lumley, Kevin M. O’Keefe, and Edward J. Sluys of Curtis, Heinz, Garrett & O’Keefe, P.C., and by co-counsel David P. Politte of Zick, Voss & Politte, Washington, Missouri. The opinion was issued May 31, 2011.

On April 28, Curtis, Heinz, Garrett and O'Keefe, P.C. was proud to once again sponsor the St. Louis Area Police Chiefs Association annual Memorial Prayer Breakfast, honoring officers who have died in the line of duty. To help the families of fallen heroes, go to www.BackStoppers.org.
