St. Alban’s Country Club Class Action Case
Results in Seven-Figure Settlement

J. Patrick Chassaing, principal at Curtis, Heinz, Garrett & O’Keefe, recently concluded a class action in St. Louis County Circuit Court representing the interests of over 500 former members of the Country Club of St. Alban’s, a private country club located in the St. Louis area.

The claims were based on officer- and entity-liability arising from its efforts, while the club was highly leveraged and in financial difficulty, to manipulate existing members into amending by-laws in an attempt to indefinitely postpone or evade the club’s responsibility for refunding equity to the former members, including the improper re-classification of incoming memberships to bypass the club’s rules and regulations requiring equity repayment, with the purpose of using the funds for ongoing operations.

The seven-figure settlement resulted in the return of 24+% of the members’ equity in cash and vouchers good for golf rounds at the club.
